Greg,
If they do total it, then you might be able to consider yourself lucky If insurance gives you book value on your car, you will make out quite well. Does suck about getting it damaged though, the car looks like it is in excellent shape!
However, it all depends on the adjusters estimate. It really only looks like your door and rear panel are damaged, the windows dont even appear to be broken, but I can't tell too much from the pictures. For the door and panel and paint you'll be looking at 1500 or so.
Again, it all depends on what the insurance folks say. Sorry to see that happen, but it may work out to your advantage in the end.

I doubt it? If I remember correctly the damage has to be 80%+ of the blue book value. I cannot imagine that damage being that much?

The unibody under the driver's door is very bent. The interior pieces are all fucked up.
It drives straight, but I just had a stolen wheel, destroyed key cylinder and minor dent on the front fender fixed for $1500. This looks like $5000 damage at a minimum.
Old people should be forced to take driver's test. All the old bat could say was, "but I had my blinker on...".
I'm actually hoping the car gets totalled. It's a lousy end for a great car, but an easy out for me.

I dont think they will total it for $5000. I think you would need to be up around $6400+ area.

That would be a sad ending for your car, but hey, it's just a car. If the frame is bent, you might stand a chance. I wonder what the true value of the car is, KBB private party value is maybe $6K I would guess, and my experience is those values are high. Trade-in value is probably more realistic, and lower. If the insurance company were to total it and pay you out, they sure won't be paying full dealer retail. So, if you want it totaled, maybe you can work with the insurance broker to set a reasonable FMV? Good luck and enjoy the SRT-4!

This car has low mileage, 72K to date. Edmund's lists the car at $7000 or so trade in, $8000 or so private sale and $9000 dealer sale.
I'm not sentimental, so I'm not hanging out in my garage crying. It's just a pisser. I've had bad luck with cars lately. This car just took $1500 in damage last month from a theft/vandalism, which cost me a $500 deductible.
Comparing that damage to this make me guess that this damage is going to total the car. The cop who recorded the incident agreed that it was a whole lot of damage. The old bat's Suburu looked like it just lost some paint off the front bumper. Those things are tanks!

First damage estimate is $4011, but uses recycled parts for the rear quarter panel and sub-assembly. My autobody guy agrees that a recycled door is the way to go, but isn't sure recycled parts are the way to go on the rear section.
BTW: The other driver wasn't 80. She's 86!!!!
Also, my car drives straight so the repair should be do-able.

My gsr was hit like that 1 year after I bought it. Damages totaled about 8K after everything was said and done. I made them replace the wheel, all factory parts, alignment.. etc.. But even then honestly the car was never the same.

tell them you only want oem parts. that will jack up the price for sure and will most likely total it out. tell them recycled parts are crap.
